We provide IT support in Chester for sole traders, freelancers, and small businesses who just need things to work.
That covers day-to-day issues, longer-term problems, and advice when you’re not sure what to do next. You get straightforward support without the cost of hiring someone in-house.
How we work
We don’t overcomplicate things.
If something breaks, we fix it. If something’s slowing you down, we sort it. If you’re not sure what you need, we’ll talk it through and point you in the right direction.
Support is available remotely or in-store, with ongoing cover through our IT Assist plans if you want that extra layer of backup.
Built from real business experience
Before Computer Buddies, we built and ran businesses in publishing and print.
That meant dealing with real pressures, deadlines, staff, systems that had to work, and the knock-on effect when they didn’t.
We’ve worked across:
- magazine publishing
- book publishing (and we still help people publish today)
- print production and design
- running teams and day-to-day operations
So when you ask for advice, it’s not coming from theory. It’s coming from experience of actually running a business and relying on tech to keep it moving.
Practical support that fits your business
Every setup is different.
Some people just need help when things go wrong. Others want ongoing support so problems are picked up early.
We can help with:
- troubleshooting and fault finding
- email and account issues
- device setup and upgrades
- backup and data protection advice
- general day-to-day IT problems
No jargon, no overengineering, just what makes sense for how you work.
Not just fixing problems
A lot of IT support is reactive. Something breaks, then you deal with it.
We also help you avoid problems in the first place.
That might mean:
- spotting issues early
- recommending simple changes
- helping you choose the right setup from the start
Who we work with
We mainly support:
- sole traders
- freelancers
- small teams
- start-ups
Especially people who don’t have time to wrestle with tech and just want it to behave.

IT Support
Laptop screen replacement
A cracked, flickering, or completely blank screen is one of the most common laptop repairs we carry out. We source replacement screens for most makes and models and can usually have it sorted within 1-2 working days once the part arrives. If your screen is damaged but the laptop still works, it’s nearly always worth repairing.
Battery replacement
If your laptop won’t hold a charge, dies unexpectedly, or won’t run without being plugged in, the battery is usually the culprit. We fit replacement batteries for most models and it’s typically a straightforward job.
Keyboard faults
Keys sticking, not registering, or missing altogether? We repair and replace laptop keyboards across all the main brands. Liquid damage is also something we see regularly – bring it in as soon as possible if that’s happened.
Slow performance
A laptop that takes five minutes to load up is frustrating, but it’s usually fixable. The most common causes are a full or failing hard drive, too little RAM, or software bloat. Replacing an old hard drive with a solid state drive (SSD) makes a noticeable difference and gives your laptop a much longer working life.
SSD and RAM upgrades
Not every laptop needs a repair – sometimes it just needs more breathing room. Upgrading to an SSD or adding RAM can transform an older machine. We’ll tell you honestly whether an upgrade is worth doing on your specific model before we touch it.
Virus and malware removal
Pop-ups, browser redirects, sluggish performance, and unexpected crashes are all signs something might be wrong. We scan, clean, and secure your system and make sure it’s properly protected before it goes back to you.
Software faults and reinstalls
Windows failing to start, update errors, corrupted files, or a system that’s just become unusable – we deal with these regularly. A clean reinstall is sometimes the fastest and most reliable fix, and we can usually have software jobs done within 1-2 working days.
Charging port faults
If your laptop won’t charge or the connection is intermittent, the charging port may be loose or damaged. We can diagnose and repair these on most models.
Hinge and casing repairs
A broken hinge can make a laptop awkward to use and risks screen damage over time. We repair hinges and casing on a range of models – worth getting sorted before it becomes a bigger problem.
Don’t see your problem listed? Come in anyway.
Laptops develop all kinds of faults and we haven’t listed everything we deal with. If something doesn’t seem right with your laptop, bring it in and we’ll take a look. We’ll give you an honest assessment and let you know whether we can fix it, how long it’ll take, and what it’ll cost – before we do anything.
